While not a 1-1 as there are other cost involved in a daily expense that varies due to cost of housing or food or simply luxuries or even the time when people pay for my gasoline. But in general as you can see, the cost per day follows relatively consistently with the distance traveled. So the more distance traveled the cost increase per day. Including cost of repair, cost of fuel, and even lodging and food cost (you can keep more perishable food if you are stationary in a location versus having to continuously move on the bike.)
You see a lot of long term travelers claim they are spending less than X dollars a day and you may wonder how that is possible. What my trip help me understand, is that it is highly dependent on distance traveled. The further you move, you may need insurance from different countries, to border crossing visa cost, and many other expenses that are inescapable. Also very importantly is the cost of gasoline as well, as that is a huge cost factor, as you can see some days I exceeded 50 dollars just on gasoline alone. Hence a formula can be determined when estimating your rough cost
X = (M/MPG)F) + Y
Cost Per Day = (Miles/Miles Per Gallon) * Cost per gallon and add Y as the average expense baseline per day.
My average from total mileage is 31,878/ 260 days = 123 miles per day on average
Cost Per Day = (123/45 ‘average mileage’) 4 ‘average cost for fuel’) + 30 ‘projected expense with lodging and food and misc.’
$40.93 Per Day = (123/45)4 + 30
My cost of fuel is nearly 11 dollars per day, most people who are traveling less maybe 30 miles per day can experience little to no fuel cost per day. Which can reduce the cost by up to 10 dollars less, and likely also reduce the daily cost as well to maybe 20 or 25. And subsequently reduce the daily cost to as low as 20 - 25 dollars a day. In the same token if you have a short period of time and you are going to need to average a lot more mileage, expect to pay more per day for gas, and likely more cost as well for food expense, as rapid travel will cut into the time you have to cook frequently.
